On Sunday 28thApril, Simon Richardson, owner of InXpress Derby & Nottingham, took part in this year’s London Marathon. He was raising money for the charity Scope. Click here to read Simon's story and reasons for running the marathon https://gb.inxpress.com/inxpress-blog/march-2019-(1)/marathon-man/
Simon was one of 420,00 people running in the marathon and says it was no easy ride, “Marathons are hard! This was one of the hardest challenges I’ve ever done,” he says. With the full support of his family during the gruelling 26 miles, which he says was integral to his success, Simon completed the full course. “My wife and two of my daughters (Emmie and Issy) were in London and were my biggest, proudest supporters. They saw me at mile 25, as I struggled past and on to the home-stretch. I received the biggest of hugs once I’d finished with the time 4hrs:23! Emmie took my medal into school the following day to show her friends!”
As he was raising money for a charity close to his heart, Simon was pleased to have reached his £2,000 target, which will have a significant impact. “The money raised will go towards the Scope helpline, online support, employment services and community engagement programs,” Simon explains. “There was a really special moment, whilst I was running. As a wheelchair competitor passed me, they slowed down to thank me for running for Scope. This was a proud moment for me, giving me a much-needed lift at the right time!”
So, would Simon consider running the marathon again? “Good question, it’s all about the time it takes to train for such an undertaking. I might just stick to half marathons from now on! But, never say never!”
A massive congratulations to Simon from all of us at InXpress!
