In December 2021, career advice service, Escape the City polled thousands of UK citizens about how they thought the pandemic had affected their careers. It will probably be no surprise to you to know more people than ever want to escape their corporate roles, and find something better, as many as 7 in 10, in fact. One unexpected result, however, is how much change there has been in what people want from their new career.

89% of respondents said they now wanted a career which was more meaningful, and had a positive social impact. Clearly, the pandemic has changed the way we think about our role in the communities, and how important it is to work together. We all want to do our bit, now more than ever. But how can we do so, whilst building a successful and lucrative career for ourselves?

When giving back becomes a way of life
InXpress franchisees have been way ahead of the game on this, for decades. Our award-winning, global, logistics franchise already helps thousands of businesses, around the world, to meet customer demands. Through their businesses, franchisees are also in a position to choose how they can support their local communities, and charitable endeavors as they find ways to make a difference.

Through InXpress Gives Back franchisees from the network are invited to participate in a variety of fundraising activities, and make suggestions of where we, as a network, can deliver practical support. Typically, we raise tens of thousands of pounds every year for causes close to our hearts. For some franchisees, this is about offering finances to those most in need, whilst for others it’s about going the extra mile with their time: from participating in sponsored events, celebrity snooker matches, and craft sales, right through to volunteering at local food banks, or community centres.

Putting people at the heart of our business
Throughout the pandemic, InXpress franchisees often went to incredible lengths to help people in their neighbourhoods who most needed them. For example:

  • One franchisee called people who’re shielding in her locality, to see if they needed shopping or prescriptions to be picked up.

  • Another franchisee arranged special free deliveries of cakes and sweets to NHS staff, in a bid to boost their morale (and energy levels).

  • Another offered free shipping to police and healthcare workers in his area, so they could quickly and easily send or receive gifts or food parcels. 

Using our knowledge to make a difference
As a shipping and logistics franchise, we have the knowledge and know-how to ship anything to anywhere. This came in handy for one franchisee when approached by a customer in a desperate situation, and he was able to use his experience to arrange the return of a specially-adapted racing wheelchair, stranded in Norway.

A collective approach to show we care
As a network of franchise owners, we have an annual campaign, every November: Our “Penny per Shipment” initiative. Franchisees commit to donating at least 1p from every shipment booked in November, which can be used for charity. We’ve counted the pennies, and in 2021, we had another record-breaking year, and raised a whopping £11,239.71.
