A Recession Resilient Franchise

17th February 2023

If there’s one thing we can probably agree on, hindsight offers insight from the past, which we can take into the future. You may not be feeling certain of anything which may happen this year, nor of what you think you can hope to achieve. But, if you’re keeping the idea of running your own franchise at the back of your mind, one of the ways you can gain insight into its potential success for you, is by:

  1. Assessing the past, and how it navigated past economic challenges
  2. Observing how individual franchisees within the network are currently doing

Our past is your future

When a franchise has been around for a number of decades, they’ve stood the test of time, and past difficulties. For us at InXpress, we have thrived over the last 24 years, through past economic challenges, to become a global brand with over 450 franchisees operating their own successful businesses in 14 countries!

During the last financial crisis of 2008, we grew as a network by 77%. This is because, as a leading shipping and logistics franchise, no matter what’s happening in the world around us, our customers still need us. They rely on us to ship items to their customers, and we deliver on their promise. This is why, in 2022, a parcel was sent through InXpress every 4 seconds.

In 2022, with the challenges of Brexit, which hit our industry harder than most, and the cost-of-living crisis so soon after Covid, the UK network still grew by a substantial 16%. Our top end franchisees often seeing six figure success as a result, each month.

Our franchisees are your benchmark

Some of our franchisees expanded their range of services, in order to create more growth opportunities for their business. They started offering customers more options when it came to their shipping requirements, such as including freight or adding in same day services.

People like Matt Strutt, who opened his InXpress Gatwick franchise in the autumn of 2020. During 2022, he saw his business grow substantially, working closely with the support network InXpress offered him – His Business Coach, and franchisee mentors. And at our InXpress awards in Malaga, in May, he was crowned “Rookie of the Year”, and took home the award for “Best Customer Retention”. Which just goes to show you don’t have to have been in the network for years to start seeing impressive results.

It also shows you don’t have to come from a logistics background to enjoy success with InXpress, as Matt, like many of our network, had no previous experience! Matt is by no means, an isolated example. There are many franchisees who started their InXpress franchise over the last year, and they’re already doing better than their first year forecast.
